The​ ​Future​ ​of​ ​AEROmobility​ in​​ Africa​ Inaugural​ ​Pitch​ ​Event​ ​(#Africa4Future)

The​ ​ Future​ of​ ​AEROmobility​​ in​ ​Africa​ ​Inaugural​ Pitch​ ​Event​ ​(#Africa4Future) September​ ​ 26,​ ​2017​ ​at​ ​the​ ​Chandaria​ ​Business​ ​Incubation​ ​Centre ​in Kenyatta University.

We​ ​ are​ ​ excited​ ​ to​ ​ announce​ ​ the​ ​ 11​ ​ top​ ​ finalists​ ​ of​ ​ the​ ​ first-ever​ ​ #Africa4Future​ ​ initiative​ ​ by Airbus​ ​ BizLab.​ ​ These​ ​ finalists​ ​ were​ ​ shortlisted​ ​ from​ ​ applications​ ​ received​ ​ from​ ​ over​ ​ 5 countries​ ​ across​ ​ the​ ​ region​ ​ including​ ​ Kenya,​ ​ Uganda,​ ​ Ethiopia​ ​ and​ ​ Sierra​ ​ Leone.

The​ ​ initiative,​ ​ launched​ ​ in​ ​ August​ ​ this​ ​ year,​ ​ targeted​ ​ East​ ​ African​ ​ startups​ ​ innovating​ ​ for​ ​ the future​ ​ applicable​ ​ to​ ​ the​ ​ aerospace​ ​ business​ ​ in​ ​ areas​ ​ such​ ​ as​ ​ Unmanned​ ​ Aerial​ ​ vehicles (UAVs),​ ​ satellite​ ​ Operations​ ​ and​ ​ Imagery,​ ​ 3D​ ​ Printing,​ ​ Smart​ ​ sensors,​ ​ Internet​ ​ of​ ​ Things (IOT),​ ​ smart​ ​ energy​ ​ and​ ​ Artificial​ ​ Intelligence​ ​ (AI).​ ​ The​ ​ finalists​ ​ are​ ​ as​ ​ follows:

  2. ESIPPS​ ​International​ Limited​ ​- Uganda
  3. Illuminum​ Greenhouses​ – Kenya
  4. Kuunda​ ​3D​ ​Limited​ ​- Kenya
  5. Maisha​ ​- ​Ethiopia
  6. QTRON​ ​Industries​ ​ Limited​ ​- Kenya
  7. Swahili​ ​Box​ ​- Kenya
  8. Savannah​ ​Circuit​ ​Technologies​ Limited​ -​​Kenya
  9. Startup​ ​Lions​ ​- ​Kenya
  10. Track​ ​Your​ ​Build​ – Sierra​ Leone
  11. UAV​ Kenya​ – Kenya

These​ ​ teams​ ​ will​ ​ be​ ​ presenting​ ​ to​ ​ our​ ​ panel​ ​ of​ ​ judges​ ​ at​ ​ the​ ​ final​ ​ pitch​ ​ event​ ​ scheduled​ ​ to take​ ​ place​ ​ on​ ​ Tuesday​ ​ 26th​ ​ September​ ​ 2017​ ​ in​ ​ Nairobi.​ ​ The​ ​ winner​ ​ will​ ​ get​ ​ a ​ ​ 10-day​ ​ trip​ ​ to Europe​ ​ to​ ​ meet​ ​ with​ ​ Airbus​ ​ experts​ ​ as​ ​ well​ ​ as​ ​ present​ ​ to​ ​ Airbus​ ​ Executives​ ​ and​ ​ investors.

The​ ​ panel​ ​ of​ ​ judges​ ​ includes​ ​ representatives​ ​ from​ ​ Airbus​ ​ BizLab​ ​ Bruno​ ​ Gutierres​ ​ (Head)​ ​ and Guido​ ​ Schwartz,​ ​ Mutembei​ ​ Kariuki​ ​ from​ ​ GIZ,​ ​ the​ ​ MD​ ​ of​ ​ Cellulant​ ​ Ken​ ​ Njoroge,​ ​ Shikoh​ ​ Gitau from​ ​ Safaricom​ ​ as​ ​ well​ ​ as​ ​ Simon​ ​ Wachira,​ ​ a ​ ​ leading​ ​ tech​ ​ Inventor​ ​ and​ ​ entrepreneur​ ​ from Kenya.​ ​ “It​ ​ is​ ​ amazing​ ​ to​ ​ experience​ ​ the​ ​ passion​ ​ of​ ​ the​ ​ different​ ​ teams​ ​ applying​ ​ from​ ​ across East​ ​ Africa​ ​ for​ ​ AEROmobility​ ​ and​ ​ to​ ​ assess​ ​ the​ ​ high​ ​ quality​ ​ of​ ​ submissions,”​ ​ Bruno​ ​ said.​​ ​ ​ In attendance,​ ​ we​ ​ will​ ​ have​ ​ local​ ​ and​ ​ international​ ​ investors​ ​ including​ ​ John​ ​ Kamunya​ ​ of Intellecap​ ​ and​ ​ Boldewign​ ​ Sloet​ ​ of​ ​ Africa​ ​ Tech​ ​ Ventures​ ​ amongst​ ​ others.

Through​ ​ programmes​ ​ such​ ​ as​ ​ the​ ​ #Africa4Future,​ ​ Airbus​ ​ BizLab​ ​ provides​ ​ early-stage projects​ ​ with​ ​ wide-ranging​ ​ support,​ ​ in​ ​ the​ ​ form​ ​ of​ ​ a ​ ​ six-month​ ​ “accelerator​ ​ programme” that​ ​ gives​ ​ startups​ ​ access​ ​ to​ ​ a ​ ​ large​ ​ number​ ​ of​ ​ coaches,​ ​ experts​ ​ and​ ​ mentors​ ​ in​ ​ various domains:​ ​ technology,​ ​ legal,​ ​ finance,​ ​ marketing​ ​ & ​ ​ communication;​ ​ easing​ ​ prototyping​ ​ and market​ ​ access.
